The Maldives of Indonesia: Gili Meno

Gili Meno is a small island located off the coast of Lombok, Indonesia, and is part of the Gili Islands. If I would have to choose, I think I would say that Gili Meno is one of my favorite place on earth! The island is known for its beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, and laid-back atmosphere. Gili Meno can really make it feel if you are on the Maldives.

Gili Meno is the smallest of the three Gili Islands and is less developed than its neighbors, Gili Trawangan and Gili Air. It has a population of around 500 people and is known for its quiet and peaceful atmosphere, making it the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The island has a turtle sanctuary. During the nesting season of the turtles, which runs from June to September, the sanctuary team carefully monitors the nesting sites and ensures that the eggs are protected. The baby turtles stay in the sanctuary for a couple of months. When they are big enough you can buy on and release a baby turtle in to the sea. The fee of a 150k rupiah will be donated to the sanctuary it self so they can continue helping the turtles. I even got emotional during the release of 'my' turtle. It really feels so special and unreal to hold a baby turtle, putting it in the ocean and knowing he has to face everything that will pass by him in the BIG BIG ocean.

Accommodation on Gili Meno ranges from basic beach huts to luxurious villas, and there is something to suit every budget and taste. Some recommendations are: The two brothers bungalows and Villa Samalas Resort and Restaurant both located only 1 minute from the beach.

Overall, Gili Meno is a beautiful and peaceful island that offers visitors a chance to escape the stresses of everyday life. With its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and diverse range of activities and attractions, it is no wonder that Gili Meno is becoming an increasingly popular destination for travelers from all over the world. Soooo go and still visite while it's really quite!
